If you have attended the Des Moines Zombie walk before, you know it becomes a sea of dead walkers taking over the city. Sounds like fun, right? Well, it is and you should join us.

If you join as a zombie, an anti-zombie protester, part of the anti-zombie militia, or as a person, you can become part of the action online. If you take pictures at the event, make sure you have the person’s permission and tag the Des Moines Zombie Walk on Facebook. We want to see your pictures! If you are using Twitter to keep up on what’s going on, you can use the #DMZombieWalk hashtag to track the conversation, see pictures, and know where we are on the walk. We encourage you to get involved online. It takes the whole experience to another level.

What you may not know about Shawn is that he’s an airbrush artist and has been doing work for 20 years.

After receiving an airbrush as a gift, Shawn took some classes and started doing airbrush artwork on t-shirts.  After mastering his craft, he moved to canvas, clothing, motorcycles and helmetsvehicles, and people.Shawn’s work includes male and female portraits, animalsvehicles, evil art and more. Shawn started a custom paint shop business in 2004 doing his artwork and custom work for clients. He also teaches at DMACC and The Art Store in West Des Moines. He also writes a column in Throttler Magazine. Shawn has also won over 50 ribbons at the Iowa State Fair in the creative arts competition.

Shawn is heavily invested in the Des Moines community, and building a growing a culture of artists. Shawn has been supportive and active since the start of the Des Moines Zombie Walk in 2009. Over the years, the Des Moines Zombie Walk has grown, in fact, doubling participation ever year. That’s a lot of zombies. We understand that not everyone is a zombie fan, or shows support in the same way. So, we would like to invite you to take a side-line seat at our walk. We would love for you to bring your family and friends (this is a kid friendly event) and enjoy 1,400+ zombies take over the East Village.

If you are brave, bring an ‘Anti-Zombie’ sign and protest with those who don’t feel zombies have rights. Yes, you read that correctly. Last year we had zombie protesters! You can be one too or just sit back and enjoy the day. All are welcome. Make sure to dress for the weather, bring a camera, and plan to laugh and cringe at the zombies who will pass you by.

We are all getting very excited about the upcoming 4th annual zombie walk. Want to be even more excited?? Well, you can help! This year, we are heavily recruiting volunteers to help make this walk the best one yet. Get some of your friends and come help out. You can learn more and get signed up by visiting our Volunteer Local page. Get involved with a local startup to help a local event, supporting people right here in Des Moines.
